“It is a less visited place than Tikal, offering a more intimate experience.”
Uaxactún is a Mayan city that was founded centuries before Tikal. It is located about an hour north by a dirt road and houses the oldest arch in the Mayan world, as well as an astronomical complex that may have given rise to the Mayan calendar.
