Chiquimulilla Canal

Researched (not yet visited in person)Last reviewed: not yet reviewed in person

Sunrise by boat through the mangroves — Monterrico’s quiet other face.

The wetland running parallel to the coast: sunrise boat rides among mangroves, herons, iguanas and caimans, with volcanoes cut out on the horizon. It is the country’s only protected strip of continental shelf and a critical refuge for endangered species.
